Located in Williamtown, NSW, the Newcastle Airport is currently undertaking a major redevelopment that when complete will bring significant and sustainable economic benefits to the region through inbound tourism and new freight-related industries, including import and export.

Expected to be completed in late 2025, the $110 million project will see Australia’s sixth largest regional airport upgraded to Code E status to allow for wide-bodied, long-haul aircraft to fly in and out of Williamtown. Existing terminal facilities will be expanded to process the larger aircraft and support the significant increase in passenger numbers expected to transit through the new facility.

Working alongside construction specialists Construction Control, Benmax will deliver the HVAC mechanical services for the new terminal space, as well as the upgrade of the existing terminal building. Designed by COX Architecture and targeting a 5 Star Green Star 'As Built' rating, the project will increase the current terminal footprint by 50% delivering new arrivals and departure processes, retail opportunities and a world-class passenger experience for the those travelling to the region.

The project is the largest investment in the region’s aviation tourism history and will be complex with the airport to remain operational throughout all stages of work. The redevelopment includes significant upgrades to the airport’s runway, construction of a larger arrivals hall, upgrade of the existing terminal building, construction of a new premium covered parking garage, relocation of the existing short-stay parking garage, along with road upgrade works around the precinct.

After working with Construction Control to deliver the major Canberra Airport Terminal Expansion project, the Benmax team are well placed to deliver this milestone project for the Hunter region and look forward to working with all partners to achieve another successful outcome.
